Unplugged Photography...
...a case study
David Shirk is an excellent photographer who was looking to develop a unique brand for his photography business, Unplugged Photography. Having met David on a couple of occasions, I knew we needed to come up with something that reflected his outgoing personality and flair for the unique angle. Through several discussions we looked at the backstory for his company's name and what personal interests we could draw on in his new logo. David loves music as well as photography and from the beginning loved the idea of "Unplugged" being a reference to his interest in music as well as the concept of being free from the confines of your everyday photographs.

1. Here we tried a splash of color with a high energy image in a photo frame. I loved the action of the figure and personality that I thought reflected Mr. Shirk's high energy and love for photography.

2. Here we took another try at a splash of color with the same high energy image in a photo frame.

3. This image tried to connect with the dynamic, yet classic style of an antique amplifier to create a brand that is classic and enduring. Ultimately though, this image represented more of the being plugged in - quite the opposite effect we wanted.

4. Somtimes a cool font with a simple twist creates a strong statement. Not all the elements of this example got fleshed out - especially the 'photography' font choice.

5. Eventually we came to the idea of a guitar pick. This simple shape represents a ton of the vision for David's photography and his personality and love for music as well.

6. pairing some of David's favorite thoughts that I sent him with the professional feel of his previous logo created the perfect 'new' image, yet blended well with his previous logo to provide a professional image that introduces David in a unique way.
